THE BETSCHER FAMILY
In 1848 Michael Betscher and his wife Mary Ann Betscher, nee Venis, left their home in Ringsheim, Baden, Germany, and came to America with their family of seven grown children, five sons and two daughters. They came to avoid compulsory training for their five sons who were of military age. They came to the vicinity of Cincinnati and lived there the balance of their lives. Mary Ann Venis Betscher died at the age of 92 years at the home of her youngest daughter, Mary Heis. She is buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery on Dry Ridge Road in Colerain Township. Michael Betscher died of exhaustion when he lost his way in the woods while going from the home of his son Amand on Harrison Pike to the home of his daughter Magdalena on Snow Hill north of Harrison, Ohio. He is buried in the cemetery of St. James Catholic Church at White Oak on Burnt Schoolhouse Road in Colerain Township. [Excerpt from the "Betscher Blue Book" - compiled by Emma Betscher Arnold - published 15 Apr 1938] If you have any current news or history about this family, let me know and I will post them here. A tract of 6.11 acres of land were purchased by Archbishop John B. James Betscher

Back2Back Minstries - Jim Betscher

I am from Cincinnati and first got involved with Back2Back in '97. It was then, that my daughter Tallie came on her first mission trip. She was 13 and immediately fell in love with the ministry here. It wasn't long before I was coming as a chaperon myself. I soon realized that with each trip I was leaving more and more of my heart in Mexico when I returned home. Coming here to serve for more than a short-term is something I have desired to do for some time. I have witnessed this ministry explode with growth over the years as God has blessed the many individuals who have joined the cause. Tallie is now graduating college this year and my son Ryan is 25 and married to my daughter-in-law Alli whom he met in college. That has meant that it is now time for me to answer God's call to serve fulltime in Mexico. I have committed to serve for 18 months and see where God leads me from there.

My background is in construction so I will be helping out wherever I am needed with all of the projects going on. I also have a heart for the teens living in the teen homes and enjoy "hanging out" with them at movies, sporting events or hiking in the mountains. I like to be called "tio" or "uncle". The first month that I was here we opened a woodshop at Casa Hogar Douglas where I help lead a class 2 days a week in woodworking. We have been making picnic tables that we will sell locally. The profit will go directly to help the operating costs of the casa hogar. The older kids love to learn to use the power tools and it gives them an opportunity to have a sense of accomplishment.

(Back2Back Ministries:  Serves internationally by caring and providing for orphan children and needy people in Monterrey, Mexico.  We serve locally through Impact Groups - which partner with local churches to equip students to be capable and effective leaders serving their campuses, communities, and the world.)
